The crocheted "whammy" sock is a knitted sock with a super-soft 3-ply yarn consisting of 85% superwash merino wool from mulesing-free farms and 15% biodegradable nylon.

(Biodegradable nylon is a new innovation in fiber technology. Biodegradable nylon breaks down completely and has a much lower environmental impact than regular nylon. Unlike regular nylon, which takes decades to decompose, biodegradable nylon decomposes in just five years. Biodegradable nylon does not decompose during normal use and is just as strong and durable as regular nylon until it reaches a landfill.)

Handmade by the Haake Foundation as well as hand-painted in the Netherlands.

This hand-dyeing is done in an environmentally friendly way with acid dyes, carefully washed in unscented wool wash.

Where possible, dye baths are reused multiple times to reduce environmental impact and minimize the ecological footprint.
